Team India LOI skipper MS Dhoni is ready to give up his captaincy if the board feels the side will be more successful with someone other than him at the helm.
Speaking to the media after the embarrassing series defeat to Bangladesh, Dhoni said the media always targets him whenever the team goes down.
"Well, I'm the one who is always blamed for anything happening in Indian cricket. Everything that happens is because of me. Even the Bangladeshi media is smiling," said the 33-year-old.
"Look, I am really enjoying my cricket. If you remove me and Indian cricket starts doing well, and if I am the reason for all that's bad, I would definitely love to step away and play just as a player then. It doesn't really matter who the captain is, because I was never really in line to become the captain. It was a job or responsibility given to me. If they want to take it away from me, it's fine," the cricketer said.
Dhoni has been a bit off colored for some time and the focus is now strongly on the individual who has earlier stated that he may or may not continue till the 2019 World Cup. While Dhoni explains it was the lack of partnerships that led to the humiliating back-to-back losses, feels chopping and changing the squad for the next assignment will not be a wise strategy.
"What's important is cricket and how you are playing on the field... Doesn't matter if you are playing Bangladesh or Zimbabwe. What is important is how quickly you can adapt. There won't be a lot of changes because this is the best lot we have," he concluded.
