Former Indian pacer and bowling coach at the MRF Pace Foundation T.A Sekar has praised the 20-year-old and compared him with Indian team opener Rohit Sharma who was famous for his classic playing style.
The Mumbai-born youngster was bought by the IPL side Delhi Daredevils for a whopping ₹2.6 crores. Voicing his admiration for the young Indian, Sekar feels that the right-hander has it in him to be the next big thing.
Shreyas Iyer has scored 5 fifties and a century in his last 12 innings in first class cricket.
Sekar, mentor for Delhi Daredevils said: "We played a practice game on Monday and Shreyas scored a 64-ball 121 against the likes of Nathan Coulter-Nile, Angelo Mathews and Amit Mishra.
"He played exceptionally well. I am sure the IPL will see him scoring a lot of runs. He will be like another Rohit Sharma in another year or two."
With a lot of expectations, comparisons and recent promising displays, Shreyas Iyer is definitely is one of the talents to watch out in IPL 8.
