Movie Review: Enakkul Oruvan - Engaging suspense

Director Prasad Ramar makes his debut with the remake of Kannada movie 'Lucia'. What will a common man, devoid of sleep, dream to become? Richer, happier, and a celebrity life. What if the dreams become so real and you end up taking the addictive sleeping pill continuously. This one is for those who love films that stand out from the trend.

Plot

The movie starts in a hospital where Siddharth is fighting his death, but the reason why he was in there is a trick maintained by the director throughout the movie to keep the suspense going. Police are clueless and rushes the procedures to get rid of the case as much as possible. But the inductance of a CBI officer increases the length of the case as well as the thrill amongst the crowd.

Siddharth (Vignesh) is a helper in a theater owned by 'Aadukalam' Naren (Durai), suffering from sleepless nights. He meets John Vijay who is illegally supplying an addictive dream pills named 'Lucia'. The tablet causes dreams to the person who consumes it, according to his wishes.

Siddharth falls in love with Deepa Sannidhi and dreams about her. In his dream, he is a leading hero and she is his girlfriend. Naren is his manager also he has an emotional attachment with Siddharth.

The lack of entertainment between the clips may cause a bit of a discomfort for commercial lovers, but the suspense is on and will keep you guessing and engaged.

The medicine he consumes is slowly taking over his mind and is affecting him psychologically in real-world and also in his dream. Whether Siddharth recovers, his love with Deepa Sannidhi and what happens in his dream, all will be revealed in the end with some interesting turnovers and shocks.

Cast & crew

Siddharth, in  his 25th film of his career, has executed the role very well. One can say that the actor is the most underrated performer in Kollywood and deserves a much higher status. It is a promising debut for Deepa Sannidhi, but those who watched the original will agree that Sruthi Hariharan was better.

Santhosh Narayanan, who has also worked as one of the many musicians for the original, composed the tunes for the Tamil version. A decent job, but not very soulful music from the composer.

The director was able to replicate the direct and indirect connections between characters in reality and dream to the same effect of the original.

Yet another successful product from Thirukumaran Entertainments.

Bottomline

A movie genre you can rarely experience, but might be disappointing for those who love just an entertainer. Brilliant performance by Siddharth and team. Suspense lovers, don't miss this.
