Red cards! Referee’s final weapon; the game’s highest penalty on the pitch. A single RED can change the game on its head. It can cost a team their highest price. Some players are famous for their ability to tackle hard, to thrash any forwards, to nullify any tricks with their harsh attitude. They save games for their team. They do all nasty works if required. They earn applauds from their fans if they save but if it goes wrong, it will be a nightmare for them.
A RED card is a disgrace for every player. No one is ready to face a RED. But the punishment is inevitable.
That is the purpose of a card, be it yellow or red. We present you the list of top 5 punished players in the history of Spanish top flight – La Liga.
1. Sergio Ramos
This is not a surprise. The veteran Spaniard is famous for his unprofessional acts on the pitch and he does not hesitate to earn his punishments. He tops the list with 10 red cards to his name.
His 89 yellow cards to date is also a record in Spain. This clearly shows how difficult he is for the forwards. But it is an unwanted record for a player like Sergio Ramos who is one of the best defenders in the history of the Spanish football.
2. Fernando Amorebieta
The former Athletic Bilbao man sits second in the list with 8 cards to his name. He moved to the Premier League side Fulham in 2013, but he is still remembered by the fans for his hard tackles.
3. Alexis Ruano Delgado
The current Getafe man has equal number of 'red's as of Amorebieta, but he still plays in the Spanish top flight which increases the chance that he will take over the second place from the Venezuela man.
The 29-year old Spaniard is a real rock, but he loses his cool quite often to earn him cards.
4. Sergio Fernandez Gonzalez
The retired Spanish defender never played for the country’s senior team, but he has 7 REDs to earn him the fourth place in the list. The former Sporting Gijon man retired in 2012 due to a serious injury, but he is still in the top 5!
5. Carlos Marchena Lopez
Now a free agent, the Spaniard spent most of his time with Valencia. He also has 7 reds to his name.
