A 30-member human rights commission team assembled from Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra is probing the spot in Srivari Mettu, Andhra Pradesh, the place where 20 Tamils were shot down by Andhra police, reports Dinakaran.
It can be noted that the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has asked for a report from the state government for killing of the alleged red sanders smugglers by the Red-sanders Anti-Smuggling Taskforce.
Also, Tamil Nadu Cheif Minister O.Pannerselvam wrote to Andhra Pradesh CM N. Chandrababu Naidu on the matter questioning whether the officials acted with adequate restraint in dealing the matter.
The incident has created a joint uproar from all political leaders and public questioning the necessity to execute such a big operation.
A member of the taskforce says that they only shot back in self-defence after the smugglers launched an attack on the armed men using stones and sticks.
