1 lakh people vote for net neutrality; service providers against it

Telecom operators across India have approached the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to allow them to block apps that provide users communication through data packages and also regulate pays to charge differently for using top sites.

TRAI has released a PDF asking public opinion on the same. Indian internet users are aware of the consequences and are intensely involved in online campaigns and the latest is that they have sent 1 Lakh+ e-mails to TRAI, to save the internet, through savetheinternet.in. voting for net neutrality.

Net neutrality allows users to access any site from any device without any restrictions on the same from your ISP (Internet Service Provider).

Celebrities, public and even politicians have come up in support of net neutrality and some are seen canvassing public across social media platforms.

"TRAI should uphold #NetNeutrality and let internet be a neutral medium which serves our country & community instead of select few companies," tweeted DMK leader M.K.Stalin.

"#NetNeutrality is as important as Freedom of Speech. Our Basic Right",
said Riteish Deshmukh on his micro-blogging page.

Actress Raai Laxmi tweeted: "All its takes is to click #NetNeutrality at http://www.savetheinternet.in request all of u to spread as much as possible !"

It has to be remembered that Tim Berners-Lee, the man who invented the Internet opened the service to all while he could have offered to it a particular company and amassed massive wealth.

Users can also use http://www.netneutrality.in/ to submit their response to the TRAI before 24th of April.
