The beef festival arranged by the left backed NGOs of Kolkata was called off at the last minute. The event was organised to raise their voices against the ban of beef meal in states.

The reason for the event's cancellation is still unrevealed since the authorities are tight-lipped to questions. The fest was to have a list of meat delicacies including hariyali, shahi, sheek, kasturi and malai kebabs, mutton, as well as beef.

The Muslim Institute in the Park street - the venue where the festival is believed to happen has cancelled the event at the last minute owing to high pressure from political parties, reports suggest.

Earlier the left unions have announced that they will conduct such events in various states to protest the beef ban. But some other political parties are strictly against this as they claim the event is a violation of Hindu traditions.
