Sunil Narine |
The 8th edition of Indian Premier League is scheduled to kick start on April 8, 2015. Kolkata Knight Riders won the title last year and are entering the latest season as defending champions. Sunil Narine - the Caribbean spinner played an important role in their title pursuit last season but was suspended from bowling in the CLT20 final for suspect illegal bowling action.
Despite being cleared by the ICC, the authority that controls the game in India are adamant and demanding another test for the bowler under their norms to prove the legality of his action after being suspended from bowling since the semi-final of Champions League T20, 2014.
This has caused some panic in the KKR territory and the franchise is now threatening to skip the upcoming IPL season if the BCCI upholds the ban on Sunil Narine, reports NDTV.
Notably, the spinner pulled himself out of the West Indies Wolrd Cup team to give him more time to work on his new action, despite being cleared after the ICC conducted tests on the bowler's action at the Loughborough training center, England.
BCCI also dismissed the test results by ICC and are reluctant to lift the suspension on Sunil Narine, it is learned. Not a single season of IPL was played without controversies in the past and this season has brought one to itself, even before the beginning of the tournament.
Sunil Narine has picked 67 wickets for KKR in his 47 games with an economy rate of 5.77 at an average 16.13. The numbers show how important is the man to the KKR side. In T20 games, particularly one like IPL where batsmen hold advantage, 5.77 is a remarkable economy and his wicket taking ability is simply outstanding as he has picked at least 20 wickets in each of the three seasons he has played in.
