New Zealanders dominate the ICC Team of CWC 15
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the team of the World Cup 2015. A six-member expert panel including the likes of Harsha Bhogle and Richard Kettleborough, the ICC Umpire of the year 2014, has picked the team not only based on statistics but also on team balance.

Quite deservingly five New Zealanders were picked in the side that only has three players representing World Champions Australia. Asian giants India, despite winning 7 matches on the trot before going down to the eventual winners do not find any recognition at all.

The ICC XI (in the batting order)

1. Brendon McCullum (New Zealand (captain)

The swashbuckling opener ended the tournament with 328 runs at a jaw-dropping strike rate of 188.50. The skipper of the Kiwi side, McCullum attracted praise for his aggressive captaincy and thus named captain of the side.

2. Martin Guptill (New Zealand)

It can be said Guptill was a late bloomer for the Black Caps considering his hundred and double century came in the final match of the group stage and in the quarter-final, respectively. He finished as the leading run scorer with 547 runs in 9 innings.

3. Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka) (wicketkeeper)

The Lankan left-hander smashed four centuries in four consecutive innings, becoming the first player ever to do so. His average reads a staggering 108.20 in 7 innings and is next only to Guptill with 541 runs (7 innings).

4. Steven Smith (Australia)

Each of Smith's last five innings in the competition were 50+ scores. As someone to have exhibited immense level of consistency, Smith deserves this place as everyone else in the side.

5. AB de Villiers (South Africa)

The Protean superstar played a breathtaking innings of 162* against West Indies, claiming the record for the fastest 150 of the format. He is also the third highest run-getter with 482 runs at 96.40 per dismissal.

6. Glenn Maxwell (Australia)

Australian batting powerhouse was also a key contributor with the ball. Scoring at a rate of 182.02, Maxwell averages 64.80 and has 6 scalps with his off-spin.

7. Corey Anderson (New Zealand)

The left-handed all-rounder was vital for the success of Kiwis and has 14 wickets and 231 runs in the competition.

8. Daniel Vettori (New Zealand)

The veteran left-arm spinner pips Imran Tahir to be the lonely specialist spinner. More than his 15 wickets, the economy of 4.04 after 75.5 overs in the tournament should have been the reason for his selection.

9. Mitchell Starc (Australia)

The player of the tournament has 22 wickets from 8 innings at an average of 10.18. Was accurate in line and length, often leaving batsmen clueless to his inswinging yorkers.

10. Trent Boult (New Zealand)

Also with 22 wickets, Boult has produced some outstanding dismissals in the competition and forms a highly threatening new ball pair with Starc. Has bowled 14 maiden overs in CWC15, 50% more than the second best.

11. Morne Morkel (South Africa)

Statistically, Umesh Yadav edges ahead of Morkel, but the Protean has picked up a wicket in every game he took the field. Better economy could have also worked in his favor.

Brendan Taylor (Zimbabwe) (12th man)
