Top players in IPL 8 auction and their possible destinations

As the world eagerly awaits the start of the ICC Cricket World Cup, there is another big event around the corner for the fans. India's cricket carnival: the Indian Premier League, is going to host the player auction for the upcoming season.

With Delhi Daredevils releasing as many as 13 players from their squad, and RCB releasing their biggest acquisition, the auction will be dominated by the two teams.

Here are the top

Yuvraj Singh

The champion cricketer attracted the highest bid at last year's auction but was shockingly released by the Bangalore-based franchise. With a buy-back option, the Virat Kohli led side might bring back the World Cup winner for a comparatively lesser price.

Sunrisers Hyderabad with a light weight middle order and Delhi Daredevils might target the left-hander along with defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders.

Aaron Finch

The Australian opener is deemed surplus to Sunrisers Hyderabad's requirements with fellow countryman David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan occupying the opening slots.

Mumbai Indians might be looking to land the right-hander to replace Michael Hussey at the top of the batting order.

Kevin Pietersen

The South African-born Englishman can be termed as the world's top T20 mercenary. Returning from injury, Pietersen consumed quite a few innings before finally starting to contribute in the later stages of the competition last season.

Sunrisers Hyderabad, RCB and Delhi themselves might have a go for Pietersen for obvious reasons.

Eoin Morgan

England ODI captain withdrew from the last auction and is expected to be one of the main attractions this season.

Delhi Daredevils and Sunrisers Hyderabad will look to add value to their middle order by picking the Irish.

Dinesh Karthik

The wicket keeper batsman was the second most valuable player last time around. With almost all the sides having a specialist keeper in their ranks, Karthik's value is expected to come down.

Hashim Amla

The South African batting machine might finally make his IPL debut this season. Rajasthan Royals, known for their selection of talent rather than power, might bid for the right-hander.

Ross Taylor

IPL 2014 was not a productive season for both Taylor and his franchise as the Kiwi is again on the auction list. Having played for 4 IPL sides before, Taylor, now into his 30s, might not be a primary target for sides.

He might still serve the likes of RCB and KKR, who need some backup options in the middle order.

Michael Hussey

Daredevils are in need of an experienced, calm head at the top and who else can fill in that role better than Hussey.

Other than DD, RCB might also bid for the veteran to partner Gayle at the top.

Amit Mishra

Despite being one among the leading wicket takers in the T20 tournament, Amit Mishra was released by Sunrisers Hyderabad. With Karn Sharma and Parvez Rasool in squad, and Mishra himself not at his best, the leggie enters the action.

Again Daredevils are the team with a strong reason to sign the spinner.

Murali Vijay

The former CSK opener failed to meet the expectations at Delhi last time around. As mentioned earlier Mumbai and RCB are in need of a specialist opener.

Other leading players in the auction pool

Jacques Kallis, Zaheer Khan, Irfan Pathan, Darren Sammy, Marlon Samuels, Ravi Bopara, Albie Morkel, Ravi Rampaul, Pragyan Ojha, Cheteshawr Pujara, Wayne Parnell, Ben Hilfenhaus, Praveen Kumar, Cameron White, Rudra Pratap Singh, Angelo Mathews, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Sean Abbott.
