K.V.Anand's fourth directorial venture, Anegan has attracted more attentions to be the biggest ever release for Dhanush which shows the effect of the director's previous projects. The director continues his association with Subha, teaming up with Dhanush for the first time.

Plot

The narration starts in the 1960s, at Burma where Dhanush(Murugappa) is a civil worker who saves Amyra Dastur(Samudhra) from an accident. From then starts the love story of the pair which comes to end as Mukesh Tiwari(father of Samudhra) kills Murugappa.

In all likelihood, one might have guessed that the movie is going to deal with reincarnation/memories of the previous birth.

On the expected lines, back in reality, Amyra Dastur (Madhu) who works for Karthik (Ravi Kiran), meets Dhanush(Ashwin).

The lady, taking treatment for mental stresses, firmly believes herself as the old Burma girl (Samudhra), and feels that the hero is back from his past life (Murugappa). Amyra also believes that all the things happening around her are bounded by fate.

The death of Aishwarya Devan, in a short role(s), is the one area that adds a different angle to one's attempt to guess the script.

Later the pair solves a withdrawn murder case with the help of Amyra Dastur's dreams, marking the interval.

From there the story kick starts with Kali and Kalyani, the third roles for the respective leads. As mentioned, Madhu strongly believes that she and Ashwin are in their next life. The theater atmosphere turns very noisy as Dhanush shakes his legs for Danga Mari.

So, where does all the connecting dots end? Who is the baddie? Are they really reincarnated souls? The answer lies in later stages.

Cast & Crew

The connection between characters of the past and present times together with some twists and turns add up to an entertaining output despite being a lengthy, repeated story.

Karthik has done a fine job and it is really great to see him on screen, once again. Ashish Vidhyarthi, Jagan, Mukesh Tiwari and Thalaivasal Vijay are the other notable artists. Om Prakash's cinematography is pleasing as well as Anthony's cuts.

After a long, long time Harris Jayaraj’s complete album can be termed as a hit and K.V.Anand’s love for breath-taking visuals makes it doubly effective.

Dhanush once again did a mature act and portrayed his all three characters and their differences well. As far as Amyra Dastur is concerned, she doesn't look like a debutant at all.

Re-birth, romance, thrill, suspense, mass factor - Anegan has them all. The narrator even touches horror and also indirectly registers the effects of work stress in the corporate world.

The theme, this movie is based on is impossible to judge and it ends as a two-way road: one is science and the other is human's beliefs in mystery. The watchers can take any road they wish.

Bottomline

Grab a ticket and enjoy the ride. K.V.Anand has lived up to the billing. For sure, the narration will keep you engaged and entertained.

Marks - 7.5/10
