Ravindra Jadeja injured; Axar Patel called up as replacement

Axar Patel (L)
Left-arm spinner Axar Patel will join the Indian squad in Australia before the Boxing Day Test after Ravindra Jadeja picked up a shoulder injury.

Jadeja will return home to undergo rehabilitation for the same. With India opting for Karn Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin in the first two Tests, Jadeja's only appearance on the tour came in the warm-up fixture against Cricket Australia Invitational XI.

Axar Patel is now included in the Test squad for the first time. The player is currently playing for Gujarat in the Ranji Trophy fixture against Saurashtra.

Joe Burns to make Test debut

Australia have included uncapped batsman Joe Burns in place of injured Mitchell Marsh. The all-rounder suffered a hamstring pull in the Brisbane Test which Australia won by 4 wickets.

The right hand batsman might bat at No.3, pushing the struggling Shane Watson to No.6. The prospect of more bowling duties to the experienced all-rounder will also have a considerable influence in zeroing in on the batting order.
