Football week update for all major leagues in Europe

Each week gives us new games, new winners and new records. But, this week made us experience something we have not in the past years. Yes, no one would have expected this week’s results. Allow me to explain you the reasons. Let’s start with the Spanish.

La Liga

We always have discussed English Premier League ahead of La Liga but this time it has overtaken the EPL and they deserve it. We are very much pleased to introduce it as the most competitive League (at least for now).

Leaders Real Madrid continued their fine run of form with a 5-1 win over Rayo Vallecano. Barcelona made a comeback to defeat Almeria in a thrilling encounter. Atletico Madrid slipped once again this time losing to Real Sociedad. Sevilla, hosting Levante, only managed a single point.

The slips by both Atletico Madrid and Sevilla let Barcelona to the second top and are 2 points behind leaders Real Madrid. Valencia sits third with 24 points just one short of Barcelona who are chased by Atletico Madrid (4th) and Sevilla (5th). The top five teams are separated by just a five point gap which makes the Primera Division more competitive this time.

EPL

As a big surprise, the English Premier league has turned out to a two horse. A single horse race to be exact. Have anyone ever dreamt of this? I haven’t. Chelsea won Liverpool in a 2-1 entertainer and Manchester City battled hard to earn a 2-2 draw.

Arsenal once again surrendered their supremacy, letting Swansea overtake their lead. Southampton are maintaining their fine form and are the only side who chase Chelsea. However, the comfortable four points lead the Blues have, coupled with some tough fixtures lined up for the Saints is making Chelsea the clear favorites.

Chelsea are sitting pretty at the top and are already 8 points clear of the third placed, defending champions Manchester City. Arsenal are in the 6th spot followed by Manchester United (7th).

Liverpool are in 11th place. This is not competitiveness, this is just the irresponsible play from the top teams of England and if this continues then they will never be that competitive this time.

Serie A

Is there anyone to stop Juventus from the title? They thrashed Parma by netting 7 goals past them. The impressive Roma won 3-0 against Torino, they have to do more and more if they intend to stop Juventus.

Internazionale and AC Milan have drawn their respective fixtures against Hellas Verona and Sampdoria. Napoli defeated Fiorentina in a narrow 1-0 finish.

Juventus are at top with 28 points, followed by Roma (25 points), Napoli (21 points) and Sampdoria (20 points).

Ligue 1

The battle in France is much better this season as Olympique Marseille and Olympique Lyonnais are giving a tough competition for the title. Let’s hope they will continue this spirit throughout the season.

Paris Saint Germain defeated Marseille to reduce their gap to just one point at the top. Meanwhile, Lyonnais won 3-1 against Guingamp to stay in the title race with 26 points.

The top two Marseille (28 points) and PSG (27 points) are under pressure by the following Lyonnais (26 points) and Bordeaux (24 points).

Bundesliga

Finally, a second horse came to race for the German crown as Wolsfburg chasing Bayern Munich. They defeated Hamburger by 2-0. Bayern Munich dismissed Frankfurt 4-0 which is an usual thing to happen. But the most unexpected and most shocking news is the put of form Borussia Dortmund who maintained a 1-0 win in the Borussia derby, thanks to an unfortunate own goal by C.Kramer.

Bayern Munich in the top with a four point led over the second top Wolsfburg. Borussia M’gladbach are in third top followed by Hannover. The gap between Bayern Munich and Hannover is 8 points.

That’s all for this week. Let us meet once again after the INTERNATIONAL break.
