Despite an intense 48-hour search to relocate the missing surveillance aircraft, the officials are yet to receive any good news on its locality. For starters, the aircraft lost contact around 10 PM over Tiruchirappalli, after leaving Chennai around 5 in the evening for a routine surveillance mission with three crew members.
According to the Coast Guard press release: "All available surface and aircraft of the Indian Coast Guard and Indian Navy, six Coast Guard ships, four Naval ships along with long range maritime surveillance aircraft P-81 are undertaking the SAR (search and rescue) operation."
This was the second aircraft to create trouble since the last 75 days and the Navy is looking into the possibility of arrange for a complete one-time check to all Dorniers. The first crashed off Goa coast in a training mission.
The Flag Officer Naval Aviation could order for an inquiry into the same. Dornier CG-791's crew was rich in experience, especially commander Joshi, with 4000 hours of flying experience under his belt and the officials have not lost hope on him.
