Farmers suicides are not because of crop damage, says MP minister

Farmers committing suicide is nothing new since it has sadly become a regularity these days. And the latest is that over 100 farmers have ended their lives in Uttar Pradesh. The large dimensional damage to the crops is the reason for suicides, most of the people declared.

But Madhya Pradesh minister Kailash Vijayvargiya has come up with a different explanation for the situation as he sees the personal problems to farmers as the main reason for suicide, not crop damage.

"Nobody is committing suicide because of crop damage. Farmers in Madhya Pradesh are committing suicide because of personal problems," Vijayvargiya was quoted as saying by CNN-IBN.

Wheat and other rabi crops suffered a massive damage in March due to unseasonal rain and hailstorm in Haryana and the situation is quite similar in Rajasthan.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has urged the farmers not to lose hope and the government will do the best to support them in every possible way.

"We understand your pain. There are ups and down in life. There are good and bad days. Face the situation boldly. Don't get thoughts of suicide in your mind. Our government is with you. We will support you in this situation," Gadkari said.
