E-marketing giants Flipkart plans to add groceries to their sales by this year. Despite facing stiff competition from many other online sellers like BigBasket, the Bangalore-based firm see this as a tool to earn a wider group of consumers.

"We already have the technology, warehousing and the brand, so most likely we will do this in-house in the second half of this year," a firm insider with adequate knowledge of this told Economic Times.

Despite Flipkart declining to comment on the matter, it is believed that the firm is targetting an expansion plan and grocery gives huge number of buyers without a doubt.

According to Ankit Nagori, the company's senior vice president in-charge of Flipkart's commerce platform, Flipkart see FMCG (Fast-moving consumer goods) as one of the key to their intention to be the leader of online retail industry.

"We will try and launch as many categories as possible and FMCG will be one of those categories," said Nagori.
