Lee Kuan Yew, the father of Singapore, passed away, aged 91. The wise man was credited to be the architect of Singapore's growth in the international arena, post independence in 1965.
Lee, a Cambridge-educated lawyer, was at the helm till 1990 and stepped down only after strongly establishing Singapore's credentials in the global arena.
Announcing the sad news in the early hours of Monday (local time), current Prime Minister of Singapore and Lee's son, Lee Hsien Loong, was visibly struggling to hold back his emotions.
Widely regarded as one of the most influential leaders in world history, Lee's state funeral will be on March 29th. The deceased man will be kept in Parliament House from March 25-28 for public homage.
A period of national mourning has been declared till March 29. Tributes from all over the world are flowing in for the iconic figure.
