With India facing West Indies in two days time with hopes of confirming their knockout berth, the Asian giants face an unwanted problem as an ICC complaint was lodged against the side's premier batsman Virat Kohli.
Jasvinder Sidhu, a journalist with the Hindustan Times, claims the 26-year-old verbally abused him without provocation. Indian officials did not deny the incident completely that happened during India's practice session on Tuesday, Murdoch University, Perth. However, they say that there was no such abuse involved. The Indian side also clarified that it was a case of mistaken identity.
"There was a misunderstanding and no abusive language was used," Indian team media manager, RN Baba said. "Virat has spoken to the concerned gentleman immediately and [the] matter ends."
There were also reports that claims Kohli was abusing the journalist over an article on the player's girlfriend and popular Bollywood star Anushka Sharma.
Anurag Thakur, the newly elected BCCI secretary, said: "He (Kohli) has clarified on the issue. For India, the ongoing World Cup is very important. We need to put all these issues to rest and (he) indirectly has communicated that he misunderstood the situation. Let's put this matter to an end.
"In future, I think these kind of incidents should be avoided and taken care of. I have not spoken to the players yet, the team management is there, taking care of all the players' needs," he added.
Despite all these comments made there is no official statement released by the BCCI nor the ICC, yet, on the matter.
