It is an unforgettable day for Christopher Henry Gayle as well as for the entire cricket world. The big Jamaican is the first ever player to get a DOUBLE HUNDRED in a world cup match and is the first non-Indian to get to the mark. The innings is one of the best we have seen and it has a list of records to justify the words.
Chris Gayle played a massive innings without doubt but is it solely his bat that produced this unforgettable day? I think not and here we see the reasons.
1. Controversial LBW
Chris Gayle would have gone for a GOLDEN DUCK if the umpire's call would have been an out! Yes, he was at risk with all the possibilities for a LBW but escaped as Zimbabwe reviewd the decision. The ball sailed just a half inch above the middle stump and it stayed with the umpire's call. Later, it was suggested that the Hawk-eye technology might've predicted the trajectory wrongly which means Gayle continue and his stay ended only with the final delivery of the innings.
2. Caught but not out
Gayle was caught at long on when he was batting on 122, but an error by the bowler gave him the second chance to rack up. He survived with the help of that no ball signal and from there on he started to thrash the bowlers all over the ground.
3. Rain
With black clouds surrounding and rain starting to interrupt the game, the Zimbabwe players were complaining that the ball is slippery. Umpires signalled to keep on playing and gracefully the rain stopped without disturbing a single minute of the game during the course of the West Indies innings. If the rain did a little disturbance that might have altered the game, but it didn't. Perhaps this might be harsh on Gayle, but it nevertheless a noticeable thing that helped Gayle to make up his innings.
'It was written already.' That is what strikes our mind first when seeing the things happened. Gayle has all ingredients to achieve this, but more than his ability, he was blessed and destined to do so. We give full credit to Gayle at the same time we have to understand that some of other great players who had equal powers and potential as Gayle didn't achieve this massive record. This clearly gives us one conclusion, "IT WAS WRITTEN".
But no one gets anything if they don't deserve to. This amazing hitter truly deserves what he got. Congratulations Gayle on the fantastic achievement.
