Edward Snowden: You might have came across this name on social networks saying that he quit his big money job for moral reasons and undisclosed information to the public of them being secretly monitored.
Let us have a glance on this whistleblower as he turns 32.
What exactly did he do?
This American-born was working for the government and his job was to monitor all the classified information of world nations for the National Security Agency (NSA) of the United Nations. Unhappy with his work for moral grounds as he was concerned over breach of privacy for the sake of national security, Snowden left his job and later revealed confidential details of the government.
Sources say that it includes information about the global surveillance program launched by the US, revealing over 15,000 or more Australian intelligence files alongside 58,000 files concerned with British intelligence.
It came into the limelight when Glenn Greenwald, with the Guardian, and a documentary filmmaker Laura Poitras made his leaked information public.
Current state
"A lot of people are still unaware that I never intended to end up in Russia." According to Snowden, the U.S. government "waited until I departed Hong Kong to cancel my passport in order to trap me in Russia." Snowden added, "If they really wanted to capture me, they would've allowed me to travel to Latin America, because the CIA can operate with impunity down there. They did not want that; they chose to keep me in Russia."
