As the music sensation G.V. Prakash Kumar turns 28 today, here is a small tribute for him as we recall his 7 best works. As someone with a great reputation to deliver catchy rhythms, let us hope he is not going to give up composing to become a full-fledged actor.

Aayirathil Oruvan (2009)

Composing music to a periodic film is no easy task especially when the movie had entirely different plots in each half. The music director took almost one and half years to research about the music and penned some beautiful, out of the box numbers for the film. The background score carried us with the film.

The album was then considered his best work till date and the number 'Un Mela Aasadhan' sung by Dhanush, Aishwarya Dhanush, and Andrea Jeremiah went viral soon after the grand audio launch. In the Firmware awards, he was nominated for the 'Best Music Director' award for this movie. Legendary singer P.B.Srinivas made a comeback with the track 'Pemmanae'. Another highlight of the album was the refreshing instrumental track 'Celebration Of Life'.

Madarasapattinam (2010)

This movie also gained a name of 'Indian Titanic'. Although the plot of the films were on the similar line, the Hollywood movie had some fascinating music. The same magic can be seen in 'namma oor Titanic'. The song 'Pookal Pookum Tharunam' created waves around Tamil Nadu.

Almost everyone was love-struck by that song. With the release of this movie, the ace music director gained a prominent place and fame in the industry. The song 'Vaama Duraiyamma' guided us along the tradition and cuture of 'namma Chennai'.

Aadukalam (2010)

Once again GV delivered some high quality music with the album of Aadukalam. This time he controlled everybody with a different genre of love song. 'Yathe Yathe' written by Snehan and sung by music director himself went crazy. When the film was released, this song and 'Otha Sollala' was in everybody's playlist and the later still creates an indescribable feel every time we listen to it. Bgm also supported the movie well, acting as a backbone.

Apart from winning the 'Best Music Director' honor in the Filmfare awards, he was also nominated for 'Yathe Yathe' as a singer. The soothing melody 'Ayyaiyo' sung by the legendary S. P. Balasubrahmaniam, S. P. B. Charan, and Prashanthini was the other major attraction.

Deiva Thirumagal (2011)

Only good light music could really get one tied down to emotions and GV struck the right chord in the flick, giving many heart-melting moments. The music director didn't miss out on the chance to deliver some memorable music in the movie that was again based on a Hollywood release. The background score of the movie was really nice which was a major plus point to its overall reach. The father-daughter relationship evolved beautifully throughout the narration and the track 'Life is Beautiful' moved everyone towards the climax.

Also, the movie had great numbers which also topped the charts on its release, with 'Aariro' and 'Vennilave' winning hearts. Na. Muthukumar - G. V. Prakash Kumar - A. L. Vijay combination was celebrated like anything after this album.

Mayakkam Enna (2012)

The music director went on to win critical acclaim for his music in this Selvaraghavan drama Mayakkam Enna, which became his third collaboration that featured Dhanush in the lead role. The album's five songs were written by Selvaraghavan and Dhanush, with the pair also coming together to sing 'Kadhal En Kadhal'. The album also included the melancholic song 'Pirai Thedum' that had the composer's fiancee crooning for it with him. It was said that the song 'Voda Voda Voda', written and sung by Dhanush, was composed in just 15 minutes and recorded within an hour.

The score when Dhanush captures a photograph in the forest deserves a mention here. Though the movie didn't go well in box-office, the music stayed in everybody's heart.

Paradesi (2012)

Every music director will have a dream to work for the ace director Bala. GV got a chance in Paradesi and he utilized it very well. The album of the movie was very much appreciated by everyone in the film industry and was critically acclaimed. The movie marked his sustainability in the industry.

Raja Rani (2013)

The movie was much expected when the star cast was revealed. Once the album hit the stores, expectations doubled for its release. Any love story is incomplete without soulful music, in other words, the music is the soul of romance. The background score for every scene mesmerized everyone that it became the ringtone for many. The album was a complete hit. Still the score didn't lose its life that confirms it is undoubtedly one of the evergreen albums of Tamil cinema. Angnyaade in Pa. Vijay's words is easily the best of the lot.

Note 1: The years alongside films indicate the release of the soundtracks and not necessarily the film.

Note 2: Kireedam (2007), Thaandavam (2012), Udhayam NH4 (2013), and Kaaka Muttai (2015)  had memorable tracks,  yet come second best to the above seven films, we feel.

Note 3: Polladhavan (2007) and Angaadi Theru (2009) were not considered as a second composer was involved in the film.

Note 4: Only direct Tamil films were considered.
