IPL 8: SWOT analysis of Delhi Daredevils

The least followed low success franchise is looking for revival in their fortunes in season 8 with addition of veterans like Zaheer Khan and Yuvraj Singh

Strengths

In Nathan Coulter-Nile, Imran Tahir, JP Duminy, Manoj Tiwary, Angelo Mathews and the leaner and fitter looking Yuvraj Singh forms the core of the team with each dominant in their respective games.

A lot depends on the performance of young rising talents from India - Kedar Jadhav and Mohammed Shami. In Amit Mishra and Zaheer Khan, they have experienced bowling heads for respective departments.

Weakness

They don’t have an enforcer either in tearaway fast (like Suresh Raina/ Glenn Maxwell) or an unorthodox hitter (like MS Dhoni/ Kieron Pollard).

Virender Sehwag’s 5 consecutive fifties is the last consistent top order bat that DD last saw. Finding another one is the most crucial thing to get the juggernaut rolling.

Opportunities

DD has to try and set a trend like Kings XI Punjab did last season. In Gurinder Sandhu, they have a rare Australian pacer who might suit Indian pitches.

Saurabh Tiwary, Shahbaz Nadeem, Albie Morkel - heard these names before? All were once IPL stalwarts and it will be a challenge to coach Gary Kirsten to bring the best out of them.

The South African heavy side captained by a Protean can gain all the experience needed for the upcoming WT20 in 2016.

Threats

New dimension! Yes, this time around they have a flat belly, a beefed up middle order posses serious power. 

Qualifying should be their biggest threat. A new team on the circuit might take a while to get a move, if self-starter fails once again it might be the end, mentally. A win against the 'MSD United' in their tournament opener will do a world of good to their morale.

Defending in Delhi is tougher next only to Bangalore, courtesy, the size of the boundaries.
