Studio Green’s ‘Madras’ hit the screens today gathering an
overwhelming response from critics and fans, equally. After a series of
disappointments, fans expected at least a decent movie from Karthi. Madras has
exceeded the expectations of each and every one of them it seems, opening to
remarkable reviews.
Result is, the charming Karthi is back, playing a character that
we’ve never seen him do before. The crux of the film may be an old one but the
Director Pa.Ranjith has scripted a mind blowing screenplay to fade off the aged
and the movie is very FRESH in every way.
The story traces the life of a young man living in the slums
(from 1996 to 2014). It talks about how the poor are still looking for
solutions to the same issues that have been plaguing them for a long time:
poverty, powerlessness and so on.
The young Kaali (Karthi) lived in the film as the character
catches everyone’s heart. Catherine Tresa played the leading female role and
supported the director well with her acting to bring what he wanted to
showcase. Rama and Jaya Rao have left their mark who play the parents of Karthi.
Hari, Aadhi, Nandha Kumar, Ritwika are the others notable cast.
Prior to the release, director Pa.Ranjith had this to say:
"The movie is not based on an individual. When you see him onscreen, he
will not be seen as an actor. He has lived in the film along with all the other
characters."
The creater even went on to say that no make-up was used for
any of the cast members! The output is yet magnificent.
After watching the movie, a film insider tweeted: “படம் தாண்டி ஒரு
கலைஞனுக்காக கண்ணீர் வந்தது இதுவே முதல்முறை. லவ்யூ
ரஞ்சித் . லவ்யூ”.
The above lines say that the film is bound to leave an everlasting
impression within ourselves.
Another tweet read: “#Madras 1st half - terrific is the word. Not a
single dull moment. Theater response is amazing."
A reknowned critic has this to say after the first half: “#Madras 1st half- Dir Ranjith has truly arrived. Music, visuals lifting the experience to a diff level. 'Mame, Naina Sokka Igudhuba'
“Politics, frndship, romance, drama. #Gud sfuff” posted another user.
"Ranjith and santhosh are the heroes! karthis best after paruthiveeran.." tweeted a critic.
Overall, Karthi has given a blockbuster performance which
is much awaited from the star. All credit goes to director Pa.Ranjith
of Attakathi fame who has grown leaps and bounds in his second film. G.Murali’s cinematography and Praveen K.L’s editing have
quality and it is easily visible. Also, music by Santhosh Narayanan was
breath taking.
Going by the response and critical acclaim, the film is a
sure hit and a must watch for movie lovers.
