The nation of Solomon islands situated in the Oceania was hit by two powerful earthquakes, one after the other in the early hours of Saturday.

Hindustan Times reports that both the quakes were 6.8 in magnitude and no initial reports of damage were recorded. The Hawaii-based Pacific Tsunamic Warning Center has ruled out any chances of Tsunami following the quakes.

Situated in the "Ring of Fire," a tectonic zone of high volcanic activity and earthquakes, there were many activities in and around the islands in recent times. However, Seismologist Mark Leonerd said it was slightly unusual to have two big quakes "right next to each other."

The nation is yet to completely recover from the devastating cyclone of March.
