5 life lessons a board of carrom teaches you

For carrom addicts, it is not just a board. Some even preserve it more than their new motorcycle. You can very easily find a group of youngsters engage themselves to it on every corner of a hostel, may be at every two-thirds of the tea shops in the residential areas of any city.

To be frank, I have not met anyone who says he/she doesn't like carrom. While it may look fairly a simple thing - to get coins into the holes, if one gets into it deeply, it is a much needed recreational activity for your brain freeze working schedule that never allows to improvise and take leisure time.

If you can just realize, carrom teaches you a whole lot of mental lessons. Let's see one by one.

1. Precise planning will always succeed

You can't really complain about life when you've not even made a proper sketch of where you are going to stand in a particular span of time. Say if there are two, three coins in front of a hole. The one you choose to pocket first will decide how hard or easy the next shot is going to be. How exactly you are going to apply your plan matters a lot more than making one.

2. Fortune favors the brave

How many times have you given a half-hearted try at something and tasted success? While many of us would have pocketed a coin from the base with no intentions of putting it away, do we ever realize that we only deserve how much we want it. Putting in an effort when you know what a negative outcome might bring to you involves character to make brave decisions. There is no point sitting idle and letting things drift away when a bit of risk is worth taking.

3. Your destiny is in your hands

You may be very long behind, but remember you are in control unless you miss your chance. Nobody, just nobody is going to take your life (read chance) and change what you are about to do. Unless you miss, the opponent can only wait for his/her chance. The game is all yours to play.

4. Give your best and hope for the same

You might not always finish on the winning side of life even if you have made all your moves as per your schedule with considerable success. Life will come down hard on you. You need to be prepared to give it the best shot because you never know which one is going to win it for you.

5. Be prepared for the next opportunity

Even if you miss a golden opportunity to register a win, never lose hope. Life always presents a second chance for everyone in one way or another and you have to be ready to receive it with both hands with the same enthusiasm as before. Before you come out of your sober and the tentative shell, the game might well be over once and for all.

Just realized all this while playing one of many such games with friends. Feedback is welcome.
