A tale of a living together couple, love and a typical climax. If one goes into the movie expecting an 'Alaipayuthe,' the result will be nothing but disappointment.
Dulquer Salmaan (Aadi (a) Adithya Varadarajan) and Nithya Menon (Tara), both with no belief in family and have no idea to settle down engage in a relationship, in lightning speed.
With the story set in Mumbai and both have their own respective dreams, the pair decides to have fun, love and pleasure before parting ways.
Prakash Raj (Ganapathi) - Dulquer's house owner supports the move and so does his wife Leela Samson (Bhavani). Maniratnam's directorial touch can be seen in parts - for an instance - his own trademark dialog deliveries, character portrayal and sensitive scripting.
Of course, the leads impress together - Dulquer Salmaan and Nithya Menon give the best output, but the scenes sometimes fail to keep one engaged. Scripting is done in such a way that it only targets the youngsters, especially in the urban world, wanting to live life in a modern way.
Nithya Menon deserves special credit for her chirpy and bubbly screen presence.
How many times can one expect AR Rahman to save a film? Even the 'Mozart of Madras' is not up to his standards. 'Mental Manathil' is top class, but the rest of the songs are a bit of a disappointment. PC Sreeram is classy as always but could save the crawling screenplay. One can't expect a fast-paced screenplay from Maniratnam and definitely not in a love story, but this is too slow at parts. Sreekar Prasad is the editor adding some value to the film.
The pair discovers love in later stages and that good little portion where they realize it is noteworthy. Yet, the overall work is below par. Definitely will not satisfy general movie goers.
While it can be said that O Kadhal Kanmani is better than Maniratnam's last, it is not anywhere close to helping him regain his mojo as the best in the business. Registering a trend that is about to take over the world in future can be appreciated, but there should have been a stronger end to it.
Strictly for lovers and romance lovers. They might enjoy it to the core and may claim this as the best of 2015.
Marks - 5.5/10
