Raghava Lawrence's third movie of the successful Muni series - Kanchana 2 just follows the trend of it's prequels.
A hero who fears ghosts, the fear factor, a customary action that awakens the soul awaiting a revenge, a known flashback and a typical climax.
Lawrence, Taapsee and friends work for a private TV channel plans to shoot for a horror serial to reclaim their position as the No.1 channel. Kanchana style comic-thrillers lead the build-up to the main event.
The lead lady discovers an auspicious mangalsutra from the beach sand, behind the forbidden bungalow. The after-effects do not need to be stated.
Taapsee is beautiful and elegant on the screen and is an added plus to Lawrence's style of story telling. Kovai Sarala comes in the play in the later half. Jayaprakash plays a non-impactful villain. Pooja Ramachandran, Sriman, 'Nan Kadavul' Rajendran, Mayilsamy and Manobala add flavor.
Visual effects are below par and the last 30 minutes are a huge drawback. The flashback portions despite being good on the performance front, especially Nithya Menon (Ganga), slows down the tempo.
Choreography will always be special for Lawrence and it continues that way. Vaya Veera and the intro songs capture Lawrence at his best. Background score by Thaman rises to high decibels at times, helping to create the scary parts.
Nothing new in this film as one can guess every scene and portion, yet, the thrill it gives it in the first half in collaboration with Kovai Sarala - Lawrence comedy in the later parts is more than enough to make this one a commercial hit.
Those who look for a fresh script and are not very fond of Muni series can skip this. Those who love such films will have a great time in cinemas.
