The number of people to have lost their lives to summer heat wave has touched 750 in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, reports India Today.
The temperatures have been very high than normal with the maximum temperature reading 44.8 in Telangana and nearly 46.8-degree celsius in Andhra Pradesh. 551 in AP and at least 213 in Telangana were reported dead, falling prey to the hot and steamy conditions.
As a relief measure, the Cheif Minister of Andhra has announced ₹1 lakh for the families of victims. The government has also advised the masses not to venture under the sun between 11 am and 4 pm.
Heat will persist
According to the sources, this heat wave is likely to persist until May 29. India's Meteorological Department has announced 'red box' warnings to Odisha, Jharkhand and coastal Andhra for today (May 26) and tomorrow (May 27).
A 'red box' warning denotes that the temperature will be more than 45-degree celsius which may lead to heat stroke, dehydration and fatality. The condition might worsen with dry winds.
