Mitchell Johnson and MS Dhoni in a tense moment |
Australian pacer Mitchell Johnson is not new to controversy and he has come up with another one this time. The veteran is a key figure in the Australian squad and is expected to trouble the Indian batsmen in the ICC World Cup semi-final between the two nations in Sydney on Thursday.
On Tuesday, talking to Fox TV, the bowler said "I heard Davy (David Warner) said he wasn't going to get involved in all that stuff".
He continued, "Someone's got to do it and I might put my hand up. It's part of the game and what happened the other day with Shane (Watson) and Wahab (Riaz) was exceptional.
"I thought it was great entertainment and I think you're going to see more entertainment in this game."
Surprisingly, Australian opener David Warner is quiet throughout this WC and it seems Johnson has already started competing with the Indians with words before ball.
The paceman is already had his so-called entertainment with Indian batsmen in the last test series between the two nations.
Another key player and all-rounder James Faulkner is also supportive of his teammate who insisted that sledging is inevitable in a game like the WC semi-final.
"I think there always is in the game if there isn't you've got problems," Faulkner said. "It's the nature of the game, it's a semi-final, it's cut-throat. There's going to be words said and it's going to be a really tough contest. Neither team will be backing down."
Maybe their non-appreciable mind games have worked in the past but now we are in the biggest event and India are in the best position to beat Australia. These kind of mind games may backfire on them if they under-estimate the Indians by their past results against the Aussies.
And Australians must note that India too have players on their side who can provoke the opponents with words and they won't hesitate to give you back if you invite them to. Notably, Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin and Shikhar Dhawan will be ready to respond to their game and action.
