Google Doodle, on March 16, has honored British botanist and photographer Anna Atkins, on what would have been her 216th birthday.
Atkins was the said to be the first to publish a book that has photographic illustrations and is considered to be the groundbreaking contribution to the field of photography.
In Atkins' book Photographs of British Algae: Cyanotype Impressions published in 1843, the woman who is also considered to be the first female photographer, used 'cyanotype technique'.
It is one method of sun printing where white images appear on blue paper, aided by exposure to sunlight, which Google Doodle reminds us about.
The book was handwritten and was not commercially published, thus only a handful number of copies are available worldwide.
