Openers - Rohit Sharma & Shikhar Dhawan

Despite severe criticism against Dhawan, the Delhi opener is still the first choice at the top. Rohit Sharma has regained fitness and will be the other half of the left-right combination.

Middle order - Ajinkya Rahane, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni (c & wk)

With the team management pushing Kohli to No.4 in order to give more stability to the middle order, Rahane occupies the crucial No.3 slot. India might reconsider this strategy depending on match situations.

Suresh Raina and captain Dhoni complete the line-up which means Ambati Rayudu is relegated to the bench.

All-rounders - Stuart Binny, Ravindra Jadeja

In a rather debatable move, Dhoni has been testing Stuart Binny as a new-ball bowler. Going by that, Binny might very well be a regular throughout this tournament. Unless or otherwise the skipper continues the experiment of playing two left-arm spinners, Axar Patel has no chance of making the side.

Bowlers - Ravichandran Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami

With Binny being the other pace bowling option, India might stick to their habit of picking two spinners unless the conditions demand more pace. In all likelihood, the Asian giants will stay within their comfort zone. Opening their campaign in Adelaide and moving to Melbourne for their next game, Indians should be tempted to go with their strengths.

As far as the seamers are concerned, Shami holds the edge over Umesh Yadav for better consistency. The presence of Mohit Sharma could be handy once India get through the group stages.

Reserves - Mohit Sharma, Umesh Yadav, Ambati Rayudu and Axar Patel
