Following the unceremonious pull out of West Indies from the ongoing tour of India after the fourth ODI at Dharamsala, the BCCI has invited Sri Lanka for a bilateral series to fill in for the Caribbean side, reports ESPNcricinfo.
Speaking after the news of West Indies' decision to end the tour mid-way owing to salary-related issues broke out after the commencement of the game, BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel said that the board is "shocked and surprised at WICB's decision to cancel the ongoing tour of India."
Decision taken by players not WICB
While the initial reports claimed that the WICB called for an end to the series, BCCI later confirmed that it was the players' decision not to take further part in the tour.
"The West Indies Cricket Board advises, that, contrary to media reports, it has taken no decision to discontinue the ongoing tour to India," stated WICB during the middle of the 4th ODI.
"In principle we have agreed to accept India's invitation to play five one-day internationals," Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) secretary Nishantha Ranatunga said on Friday.

Another statement from BCCI quoted Richie Richardson, the West Indies team manager as follows: "Despite agreeing to play the fourth ODI in Dharamsala, regrettably, the current West Indies players have decided that they will not participate any further in this tour and wish to return home after this match".
BCCI might seek legal action
Clarifying their position to all, the Indian board further added that the board might seek legal action for not abiding by the agreement to complete the series and a compensation from the Windies.
"The BCCI wishes to inform all its stakeholders, especially ardent fans of the Indian cricket team, that this is a unilateral decision taken by the WICB and its players, in spite of several appeals to the WICB to honour its commitment and complete the series.
"The BCCI will pursue all options available to protect its rights, whilst seeking appropriate action from the ICC to ensure that its interests and those of the game at large will not suffer any damage due to such acts of indiscretion," the BCCI mentioned.

Sri Lanka readily accept invite
A 5-match ODI series against neighbours Sri Lanka will be played between November 1 and 15 after they accepted BCCI's invite.
Another news is that, the Lankan board decided against playing a T20I and concentrate on ODIs with the World Cup fast approaching. Eden Gardens, that was about to celebrate their 150th anniversary with the now called off 5th ODI is assured of a game, it is learnt.
It remains to be seen whether the rest of the venues that were about to play hosts to the remainder of the series - Cuttack (T20I), Hyderabad, Bangalore and Ahmedabad (Tests) will also be compensated with a match each.
