Chandrayaan probe |
Following Chandrayaan's success ISRO is all set to launch the second lunar probe Chandrayaan-2 in the year 2017, reports the News Minute.
"The Chandrayaan-2, India's second mission to the Moon, has Orbiter, Lander and Rover configuration. It is planned to be launched during 2017-2018 time frame by Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) from Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota," Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office Jitendra Singh told the Rajya Sabha in a written reply.
The better news is that it will be an advanced version of the earlier mission and will be an indigenous one. The ISRO is planning to develop the Lunar Lander and also take charge of the Orbiter and Rover. GSLV will serve as the launcher.
Chandrayaan-1 was sent into space on October 22, 2008. Not long ago, India became the first country to taste success in its first ever Mars mission with Mangalyaan.
