What if I tell you that Baby is greater than or equal to (>=) Demonte Colony! A lot of you would object that in the first place, even I would if I happened to come across this line before watching this film. But fortunately for me and unfortunately for the film there are hardly any awareness for the release and somebody have to come up with the word. Where are the ******* promotions? A horror story served in one of the scariest ways that it gives you goosebumps more than once.

It is a curse for such creations that however good they film a story, it will still only reach a minimal audience pool owing to the absent star power.

Before getting into the details. let me say that it is very pleasing to watch a film sans the anti-smoking videos - means there is not a hint of alcohol consumption and smoking in this film.

Warning: Don't take children to this movie (I'm serious).

Storyline

A mother gets to know that the girl she was rising was not her own child and was deliberately misplaced. The family gets affected by a spirit that follows the girl - reasoning and summation.

Cast & Crew

Finally, a film to remember for Manoj Bharathiraja (yes, him). Apart from the lead actor, there are hardly any names that we could have come across before. Such an unknown team that even google and Wikipedia cannot find a perfect match. Writer-Director D Suresh who has earlier worked on the screenplay of blockbusters Ko, I and Anegan penned a classical script and captured it with the same quality. It is not that the film is completely fresh, it has it own share of unavoidable cliches horror movies share, but there is so much of freshness to every frame as if we are watching those for the first time. I hope I'm not exaggerating things here, but it is that odd film that stands out among others.

When a film instills emotions into you mixed with an extreme level of thrill in a horror story, what else you expect from a single ticket? That is exactly why films like Pisasu and Yaavarum Nalam stand out from the rest of the pack.

A spectacular debut for Shira Gaarg who played a mother, showing the emotions and care for her daughter(s) on screen. The director has extracted the best out of child artists Sathanya and Srivarshini. Anjali Rao as the ghost with those big eyes was terrifying. Editing by debutant Bagath Singh was top notch as well as music by Satesh Harish (also on debut). Legendary singer S.Janaki rendered her voice for the track 'Meendum Meendum'. Finally, cinematographer Jones Anand: I repeat this for the nth time - Kollywood has a great bunch of lensmen and this name makes one more valuable addition to that list. Additional info: D Suresh was Balaji Sakthivel's co-director earlier.

Going by the car number plate, it is guessable that the film was shot in Bangalore. For clarification, it is a direct Tamil film.

You don't exactly see bloody, ugly ghosts, no violence at all, not that simple revenge story. Almost zero boredom, no unnecessary sequences, nil logic errors. Isn't that enough to guarantee entertainment? If you are someone who will skip films that are devoid of big names, consider changing that policy, else, you are missing out on a movie experience that cannot be described.

It was all about a girl, her spiritual companion, scary moments, trouble, problem identification (an impressive one that), twisted solution and the end result. So simple!

Bottomline

Another gem of a film that is destined to go unnoticed for lack of star value and promotions. If you have a theater nearby that screens this movie, go watch it without fail.
