The Spanish giants have officially announced the signing of Rafael Benitez on a three-year contract.
"Real Madrid will present today, Wednesday, June 3, Rafa Benitez as the new coach of the first team for the next three seasons," the club said in a statement.
The Madrid-born will take over the reigns from Carlo Ancelotti who was unceremoniously sacked just a year after winning the record 10th European championship. That puts enormous pressure on the incoming manager from whom the club will expect wonders.
Benitez guided Liverpool to the UEFA Champions League in the 2004/05 season and has also won the UEFA manager of the year award twice (2003/04, 2004/05).
