Haryana government officials are closing on their mission to discover the mythical river Saraswati as water came spurting out when 80 engaged in digging in Mugalwali village of Yamunanagar district.

The team of officials who are in pursuit to revive the sacred river found water within 8 feet in 4 pits dug in line. Despite no official word from the Archaeological Survey of India, the water source was firmly believed to be the origin of the river that flowed around 5000-6000 years ago.

The river ran through the holy city of Kurukshetra, also touching Thanesar, the capital of King Harshavardhan, reports India Today.

"It was around 1 pm when Khalil Ahmed, Salma, Pradeep and Praveen Kumar were digging up a pit. A stream came out when it was dug up to 8 feet and the quantity of water increased as they went deeper," secretary of local panchayat Balkar Singh said.

The river was so long considered as a myth as no traces of evidence was found as the mission to find back the river was on from the British rule. Many present-day and now defunct ones were considered to have a connection to Saraswati with many theories to prove the claims.

This team has tasted success with the help of satellite images depicting the path of the river. According the sources, the river dried up 4000 years ago.
