Jyothika is back and how! With all the buzz around the release of this Malayalam remake (How old are you), the expression queen has enacted a role only a few could!
We do not get to see the actress throughout the two and half hours, but Vasanthi Tamilselvan all the way. Three cheers to Surya for deciding to put his money on this script. This is undoubtedly one of the better movies made on women in Tamil cinema, in that way, the script and screenplay are the real winners.
Storyline
An extraordinary woman was forced to live an ordinary life for the sake of family and when her sacrifices go unnoticed and invite criticism she rediscovers herself, courtesy, of an old friend.
Cast & Crew
Jyothika on an anticipated comeback pulls of a meaty role with ultimate ease and has plenty of space to score. From being a caring mother, longing for care and attention from her husband and wanting to pull off a scene or two in front her office colleague, the lady shines in every frame.
After a long absence, Rahman gets a notable character - the one that deserves credit. One needs to admit his character even irritates us on screen, special credit to the screenplay for maintaining that line on describing a husband without crossing limits. Women centric films could easily create a negative image on their opposite sex, but not this one (at least, not entirely). It only shows how a man might force his ambitions on a female/ how a woman sacrifices her's for the sake of the family.
Santhosh Narayanan - this man is steadily on track to be one of the best in the industry. Maybe, he is one, already! He lets lyrics take the center stage in songs and not once he relies on the irritating rise in decibel levels in the background score.
Abhirami (yes, the same Annalakshmi of Virumandi), Devadarshini, Prem and Delhi Ganesh are those with space to perform while Nasser, Ilavarasu, Jayaprakash and M.S.Baskar add value.
Finally, Roshan Andrews - Hats off. The intention to convey a much-needed message to this modern society that is fast losing its identity in search of false happiness deserves credit. Screenplay by Bobby Sanjay was nothing short of phenomenal. R.Dhiwakaran's camera does a neat job, gets noticed at times, especially in close ranges. Fine job by Mahesh Narayanan in editing, not one scene seemed out of place.
It would be unfair not to mention Amritha Anilkumar (Mithila) who played Jyothika's daughter. It was again a perfect characterization of a modern youth. There is an equally important message conveyed in the second half that completely fits the billing.
Bottomline
A women-centric movie alright, but this can entertain everyone. I request the youngsters - who these days decide the commercial success of a movie to go for it on screens without giving it a skip. This will not disappoint you.
There is no expiry date for a woman's dream and for this movie.
Marks - 8/10
