No more Champions League T20; tournament to be scrapped due to lack of interest

The richest cricket tournament to be scrapped

The IPL governing council meeting on Monday decided to call in the curtains for the global T20 competition that was inaugurated in 2009. ESPNcricinfo reported that both the BCCI - major stakeholders in the tournament and Star Sports - the broadcaster are going to make a mutual decision to end the tournament as it has failed to attract interest among fans and sponsors.

"The meeting will be called sooner than later. The discussions have been going on for a while," CSA president Chris Nenzani was quoted as saying by Mumbai Mirror.

However, the move is expected to cause huge loss to the participating sides as the CLT20 was believed to be the richest competition in the game.

In the six editions of the competition, Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians have each won it twice. New South Wales Blues and Sydney Sixers triumphed once respectively.
