Champions League 2014-15: Know the title contenders

Written by Sundara Prabu

Europe is considered as the most powerful force in the football world since other leagues over the various continents are weaker in money, wealth and also the super stars and the future stars prefer the European countries. The reason is simply not money: it is the competitive structure and the opportunities to develop which are higher, bigger and brighter here.

And THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE is the biggest tournament of Europe and of course the world cup of the European club teams. There is no wonder or exclamation in saying that the world is most excited and eager to see the famous battle between the various power houses from various countries in Europe.

Even though there are 32 clubs who are battling for the famous old trophy, as usual some teams have an edge over others and we discuss the teams who have more possibilities to be CROWNED as the Europe’s best team, which indirectly will be the World’s best club.

REAL MADRID

La Decima! This word is enough to nominate the Spanish giants in the top of the table. The big spenders always consider the European elite as their primary honor and the records speaks for themselves. But, having lost two of their match winners in Xabi Alonso and Angel Di’Maria, they are struggling to find their form back.

At the same time the quality they have added to their squad is SCARY and that keeps them at the top. The presence of current world’s best player makes it scarier and he increases the possibility of retaining the famous title for the first time in the history.

CHELSEA

It must be a shock to consider the West Londoners this early in the list. But, if you look out the strength they possess, I can bet that you can’t question the call. The added experience of Cesc Fabregas and the ruthlessness of Diego Costa have brought new hope and enormous belief to the squad.

With energetic young talents in Eden Hazard, Oscar dos Santos, Andre Schurrle, Willian, Thibout Courtois combined with the experiences of captain John Terry, Gary Cahill, Ramires and Branislav Ivanovic, the blue army is the most complete force in England.

BARCELONA

Lionel Messi, the key for Catalans as they look to prove themselves once again in the European competition after getting knocked out in the semi-finals of the 2012 edition by Chelsea. The additions of personnel namely Luis Suarez and Ivan Rakitic boost their hopes.

But, Luis Enrique’s lack of experience in the European elite competition is a concern. The attacking pair of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and Neymar Jr. can easily break any defence line-up and the inspiring young talent Munir El Haddadi can also make his presence felt.

BAYERN MUNICH

Here comes the Bavarians! Franck Ribery, Arjen Robben, Thomas Muller, Mario Gotze and the list is almost unending. The 2013 winners struggled last time around with their adopted new style, but that doesn’t mean to underestimate Pep Guardiola’s side. Their manager has an impressive record over the European competitions and thus will play a major role in their pursuit.

The fear for Manuel Neuer must be there and it is required too since the goal keeper is the best in the world at the moment. The experiences of captain Philip Lahm, midfield power house Bastian Schweinsteiger and the ‘maestro’ Xabi Alonso must not neglected as well.

ATLETICO MADRID

Los Roji blancos managed to make it to the final last season and they nearly got to lay their hands on the Trophy before Sergio Ramos’ stoppage time header ditched them. And in the extra time Atletico failed to defend the pace and intensity produced by Real Madrid as their neighbours won their tenth Champions league title.

The intent and dedication shown by Diego Simeone’s side will be crucial and the whole team can give everything they got for their team and to their manager which is their key, secret and everything. Even though they lost at Lisbon, they will be remembered for their performance that night till the END of this beautiful game.

PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN

The French capital club are chasing the Old trophy ever since ‘money’ took over the proceedings. Their marksman Zlatan Ibrahimovic is also very keen to add the prestigious trophy to his CV. Since they have been restricted badly with Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations, they missed out on Angel Di’maria and some of their main targets.

The record signee David Luiz must prove his worth in both defence and midfield. Captain Thiago Silva is arguably the best centre-back right now on Earth and remains a solid WALL in the back.

JUVENTUS

The Old lady are very desperate to crown the Europe’s jewel and their intention to keep hold their key players Arturo Vidal and Paul Pogba clearly indicates they are going to compete this time. ‘Midfield Maestro’ Andrea Pirlo will wish to end his glorious career with the prestigious trophy.

MANCHESTER CITY

The giant English club have not produced their best in the European top competition till last season and they are very keen to end that Curse which is not a wonder. You cannot find any weak spots in their well build squad but in Europe you can’t win just with your high quality.

All the teams above mentioned teams are direct competitors and have more possibilities but there also some capable competitors who can stun every one of them.

BORUSSIA DORTMUND

You can consider them as favorites with their dominance in Europe in last few seasons, but, it is always a thrill to be a BLACK HORSE and Dortmund are the best in this criteria.

ARSENAL and LIVERPOOL can also make some magic with their experience, knowledge and the power of their youths.

This is Football, isn’t it? Anything can happen in football and a winner might also rise from those who are considered as UNDER DOGS. So don’t miss and stay tuned for this year’s football festival.
