IPL 8: SWOT analysis of Mumbai Indians

The IPL fever just started and the teams are gearing up to battle it out in the field. The Mumbai powerhouse is one of the first teams to fight all the way and we are SWOT analysing the team to give you a better idea.

Strengths

New boy Aaron Finch along with captain Rohit Sharma are the big names in the batting department and are a solid threat to any team. The presence of hard hitters Corey Anderson, Kieron Pollard makes the batting lineup deadlier.

Lendl Simmons, Parthiv Patel, Unmukt Chand, Shreyas Gopal, Abhimanyu Mithun are all handy and can be effective replacements, shows the quality and depth in the squad.

The bowling attack of Mumbai relies on the youngsters. Talented Jasprit Bumrah who impressed last season attracts eyes. The experienced Harbhajan Singh and his crucial spells can win matches for his team. 

Weaknesses

The bowling department is the weaker link for the Mumbai Indians. With Lasith Malinga not at his best, Vinay Kumar has to step up. If Malinga fails to pick wickets, Bumrah and Vinay Kumar will be under pressure to do the toughest duty. 

Kieron Pollard's inconsistency could cause the Mumbai Indians dearly in crucial conditions.

Opportunities

Corey Anderson can be the man of the series for Mumbai Indians as he holds the finishing duties, the overs he bowl could also decide the fate of Mumbai Indians.

This might well be Pragyan Ojha's final chance to shine and put away doubts on his bowling action aside. Mitchell McClenaghan's chances of making the side are non-existent. Mumbai Indians will be looking better their last season's performance after being knocked out of the eliminator last season.

Ricky Ponting is given the opportunity to be the coach of the side for the first time. Expect some aggression in playing style.

Threats

Lasith Malinga is the biggest threat to anyone who faces him but now he is the biggest threat to Mumbai unit itself this time. If he fails then that may affect the team's morale.

Josh Hazlewood has to be ready to fill in the boots of Lasith Malinga which is a big ask from the young Australian.
